Hi Everyone!
I wanted to give you an update regarding POLs. If your child is in the Tuesday/ Friday group they should have brought their outline home on Tuesday. If your child is in the Monday/ Thursday group they will be bringing home their POL outline on Thursday. Here are some ways to help your child prepare for POLs over the long weekend: Make sure all aspects of the outline are filled out, and that your child is happy with what they have written. Feel free to help them add meaningful details. Have them go through their POL, including solving the word problem and sharing their thinking. Have conversations about public speaking (eye contact, facing your audience, speaking in a loud, expressive voice). One way to do this is to watch a TED talk with your child and talk about what the speaker is doing to engage the audience. Here is a link to 25 different TED talks, please choose one that is appropriate for your child’s age and interests: http://www.edudemic.com/25-ted-talks-perfect-for-classrooms/ Please take 10-15 minutes a day to work on POLs with your child. My goal is for each student to feel confident and successful while they are up in front of the panel. Don’t forget that the dress code for POLs is the same as Exhibition. Students can change right before their POL so that they are comfortable the rest of the day. Announcements: No School - Professional Development, Fri, 5/23 All families should homeschool on this day.
